My mission is to lead and advocate for changes to improve the quality and meaning of lives and communities. This mission covers all aspects of my career, as well as my personal activities.
Your mission statement should speak to your personal goals, values, and objectives. A mission statement can help guide your career and help you to achieve long and short term goals.
Let’s review steps you can follow to develop your own mission statement. Begin with your values, past successes, and what is most important to you. And then write down your biggest personal and professional goals.
Consider the following questions when writing your mission statement. Maybe even formulate answers to these questions: How do you define success? What are you past successes, accomplishments, and contributions? What do you want others to say about you behind your back? What would others say are your greatest strengths? What do you want your legacy to be? How can you apply your mission to your everyday life?
Your mission statement is typically comprised of 1) your skills and abilities (emphasizing what you do well); 2) what you value and why you do what you do?; and 3) what you hope to accomplish or your desired impact, including who you do it for?
Now take some time to craft your very own personal mission statement. Similar to your values statement, post and share your mission statement often, and reassess it as necessary.
